Good on you for posting what you originally did and then for not backing down when framed as a racist by the first commenter.

Up here in Canada, where I live, we have many “TV Ladies” (and men). One difference perhaps is that they’re mostly white. There’s a growing disgust against them for taking, taking, taking and yet wanting still more.

One of my sincere wishes for 2008 is that the Era of the Permanent Victim comes to an end.

No, what’s disgusting is that folks like yourself can’t grasp some quite basic things in life. Ideology’s a bitch when fundamental decency doesn’t line up with your political worldview, innit?

The case of the TV Lady isn’t complex, and it is only the TV Lady — and honky-baiting ingrates like her — at whom I’m taking aim. Nobody else.

If you took the time to troll through the archives of this blog, you’d be eating your words right quick.

Here’s the deal: The TV Lady is a whacked-out, bitter ingrate who hates whitey more than she loves good sense. She lives in what appears to be a very nice unit and watches a 60-fuggin’-inch TV.

She pays little or squat for that aapparently very nice apartment, and bitches about being too bloody poor to pay her utility bill. But she can afford a big-screen TV that neither my wife nor I can dream of owning, because we have something called a house note.

The TV Lady probably couldn’t afford her big-ass TV, either, if she had to even pay a fraction of the going rate for New Orleans apartments today. Because the taxpayers of New Orleans and the United States are paying for her freakin’ apartment, she can get a TV that many of us who pay for that apartment can’t afford.

Even if she were buying that HDTV from some predatory rent-to-own outlet, she’s still paying a little money every week that would go a long way toward easing her utility-bill travails.

But what really frosts my cake is that she lives in a nicer place than I do, watching a TV I can’t afford but is so ungrateful for the blessings she has that she insists that she lives in a “slum house” and thinks she’d be better off out there with the homeless.

To which I say, “Knock yourself out, honey.”

If you can’t figure something that blinkin’ basic out, I seriously wonder about you.

I’m sure, if one digs far enough, one can find any example to outrage and inflame the delicate sensibilities of just about anyone.

Good on the Times Picayune (that bastion of objective journalism) for framing the debate in favor of development and outraged middle class white folks.

Disgusting.
